Wedgewood Golf & Country Club's Tennis Pros are very experienced in starting young tennis players on the best track for success in the sport. Our well recognized Junior Tennis Programs teach children the mechanics and fundamentals, as well as prepare them physically for the eventual fast pace of match pay. Junior Tennis Program Levels


Pee Wees
Children are never too young to start a sport they can play for a lifetime.  This program is for 3 to 5 year olds. This fun class emphasizes hand-eye coordination and basic stroke development.

Saturdays: 12:30pm - 1:00pm 

Goals & Objectives:
  • Develop hand-eye coordination.
  • Develop basic swing motion for forehand and backhand strokes.
  • Introduce basic volley techniques with focus on making contact with the ball.
Advancement to Rising Stars:
  • Must be able to hit 6 of 10 balls over the net with each stroke (forehand, backhand and volley).
  • Hit with the proper swing technique from the service line.

Rising Stars
Designed for the 5-7 year old beginning players or graduates of the Pee Wee program.  This fun class emphasizes stroke development, proper grip and hitting across the net. 

Thursdays: 4:30pm - 5:30pm | Saturdays: 1:00pm - 2:00pm | Must choose one clinic day per session.

Goals & Objectives:
  • Begin to hit balls on the run.
  • Introduce footwork.
  • Focus on a more advanced swing.
Advancement to All-Stars:
  • Must hit 6 of 10 balls over the net and in-bounds while on the run.
  • Hit all strokes from the service line.
  • Knowledge of the rules on the court.

All Stars
This fun class designed for 8-11 year olds emphasizes stroke production, footwork, rallying skills and point play.

Tuesdays: 4:30pm - 5:30pm | Thursdays: 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Saturdays: 1:00pm - 2:00pm | Must choose one clinic day per session.

Goals & Objectives:
  • Hitting balls from the baseline. Start to develop hitting back and forth.
  • Focus on aiming the ball when hitting.
  • Begin to learn the motion for serves.
  • Learn basics of scoring and how to score a game.
  • Introduction of point play.
Advancement to Superstars:
  • Must have the ability to keep the ball in play for 10 shots in a row (mini-tennis).
  • Can hit 6 of 10 serves in-bounds. Able to score a game of tennis.

Superstars
This fun class designed for 10-15 year olds emphasizes point play, spin, and pattern development.  This program provides a great introduction to competitive junior tennis.

Tuesdays: 5:30pm - 7:00pm | Thursdays: 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Saturdays: 2:00pm - 3:30pm | Must choose one clinic day per session.

Goals & Objectives:
  • Start of Point Play and Match Play development.
  • Introduce live ball drills.
  • Focus on advanced stroke development and construction of serving for points.
  • Junior Tournament participation will be expected.
  • Will learn what shots should be hit in certain situations.
Advancement to Elite:
  • Must be able to hit 10 balls in a row from the baseline
  • Must play in at least 4 Green Ball Tournaments or have won one Tournament.

Team Development
This class is for the junior that is not quite ready for elite and is over the age of 12.  Stroke development, patterns, point play will all be emphasized.

Thursdays: 5:30pm - 7:00pm | Saturdays: 2:00pm - 3:30pm | Must choose one clinic day per session.

Goals & Objectives:
  • Start of Point Play and Match Play development.
  • Introduce live ball drills.
  • Focus on advanced stroke development and construction of serving for points.
  • Junior Tournament participation will be expected.
  • Will learn what shots should be hit in certain situations.
Advancement to Elite:
  • Must be able to hit 10 balls in a row from the baseline.

Elite
Designed for players who have attained a regional or national ranking, as well as players competing in high school.  This fun class is designed to challenge students to bring out their very best.

Mondays: 4:30pm - 6:30pm | Wednesdays: 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Fridays: 4:30pm - 6:30pm | Must choose one clinic day per session

Academy
Designed for players who are pursuing a sectional and national ranking and the opportunity to play college tennis.

Mondays: 4:30pm - 6:30pm | Wednesdays: 4:30pm - 6:30pm 
Fridays: 4:00pm - 6:30pm | Must choose one clinic day per session

Goals & Objectives:
  • Advanced tournament preparation. 
  • Master point development, strategy and patterns of play.
  • Mastery of both singles and doubles play.
  • Master tennis, fitness and eating habits for a high level player.
  • Requirements to Remain:
  • Must play in two USTA tournaments per month.
  • Must have USTA ranking points.
  • Must play USTA Junior Team Tennis for Wedgewood.
  • Must participate in at least one match play each month and/or play and report back a practice match(es)
  • Must play in USTA Ohio districts qualifier each year in June
  • Must attend at least one Ohio State men's or women's match per season
