The Tennis Program is at all time levels of activity and excitement and we have these amazing Tennis Professionals to thank for that! Bob Cook| Director of Tennis & Pickleball
Born August 15, 1967, in Findlay, Ohio to Robert and Judith Cook. Married Kathryn Cramer, 1998. Two children, Emma and William.

Started playing tennis in 1981 with neighborhood pals at the local tennis courts. Built a foundation of skills through endless hours of hitting the tennis ball against the outside gymnasium wall of the local middle school. Took first lesson from Mrs. Jeanette summer 1982 for $10/hour! Began competing in junior tournaments around the Midwest, achieving the #72 ranking at age 16. Represented Northwest Ohio at the 1985 Davis Cup Tournament at Miami University. Attended Findlay High School, and as a member of the Boy’s Varsity tennis team in 1984-86, played as the #1 singles player, two-time conference champion, conference MVP, and team captain junior and senior years.

Played college tennis at Findlay College 1986-89. Held #1 singles and doubles position all-four years. Four-time team MVP, winner of annual William Ives Award in 1988. Achieved NAIA National Ranking of #26 in 1987. Elected to The University of Findlay Athletic Hall of Fame, 2006.

Competed in Sweden, Denmark, Norway in ITF Professional tennis events before spending time participating in the USTA Satellite Circuits in West Coast, Florida, Midwest events. As a senior professional, have won three USTA National Category 2 Championships, all on clay courts: Men’s 40, 45, 50 singles divisions. Finished #1 in Midwest rankings in 2007 while competing in the Men’s 40 singles division, while also being named USPTA Midwest Player of the Year. Most recently, achieved career-high ITF World ranking of #80 while competing in the Men’s 55 singles division.

Professional teaching career began in 1989 in Brooksville, Florida for the fore-mentioned Mrs. Jeanette. Earned USPTA Elite Professional status later that year, along with USRSA Racquet Stringer Certification. Held various staff positions in Columbus, Lancaster, Toledo, Lima, before settling in Findlay as the Director of Tennis at Findlay Country Club in 1999.

 

Wendy Gibbons | Tennis/Pickleball Manager
Wendy has been a member of our Tennis Department since 2010 and has been very active in our junior programming, ladies clinics/leagues, and recently, our Pickleball programming. Wendy was promoted to Tennis/Pickleball Manager in 2019.

Wendy relocated to Powell from Reno, NV  in 1998 with her husband Tim and son Tyler. Enjoys the beach with her 4 siblings, MG motoring, Crew soccer, neighbors, tennis, and Pickleball.

 

She graduated from Winthrop College (now Winthrop University)  with a degree in Physical Education. She worked in the corrugated industry for 20 years and retired from Boise Cascade in 1998 after 9 ½ year as Customer Service Manager for the Reno-Sparks facility.

 

John Gray
John has been a tennis professional for 32 years. He successfully helped 225 juniors earn full ride scholarships. Five of the juniors have won National Championships at the collegiate level. Four others competed at the professional level in the top 200 in the world. As an amateur player, John has been ranked as high as 11th in Singles and Doubles in the Midwest Section. Currently he is rated a 4.5 as a singles and Doubles player.

Jeff Luxenburger
Jeff has been coaching youth tennis since 2007. Jeff played varsity tennis as an undergraduate at Otterbein University, and later received a Masters in Education at Ohio State University. He is the head coach of the Olentangy High School girls' and boys' tennis teams. He also coaches the district-wide Olentangy middle school club tennis programs.
